“A Girl Singin' Merle”

Dave and I were in a Nashville Bar down on Broadway a few years ago, and we watched a female singer pouring her heart and soul out for tips. We thought that she was great, and unfortunately so were the other half dozen or so female singers we saw performing on that trip. They were all girls just trying to make it in such a tough business. I came up with the song idea “I’m Just A Girl Singin’ Merle”, and Dave loved it. We went to see Merle Haggard perform a few months later at the beach in Oregon. He was so good, and it was the perfect thing to spark us to finally write the song. We wrote the song, and love it and its lyrics. We even have a little snippit of the music of “Walking on the fightin’ side of me” in the song. It’s fun!
