“Make a Man Out of You”

One day we were getting our horses hooves trimmed by our horseshoer Rick. We started talking about deer and elk hunting and I told him how Dave and Johnny love to hunt near Fossil, in Eastern Oregon. Dave looked up at me and said. “Wow. With all of those rim rock canyons and steep inclines that will make a man out of you in a hurry.” It is so true, those mountains are merciless. I told Dave about our conversation, and then I told him about a song idea I got from it. I had been wanting to write a song about fathers and sons. It seemed to make perfect sense to use this as the “hook”. I called and told my twin sister Kaysie about our ideas for it. She and her husband Mark really worked hard on it for us, and this song was born. I love it and I love the unique melody Mark came up with. Rob Hajacos plays great fiddle on it too!
