“Scars You Can't See”
Written By Dave Grill and Kellie Poulsen-Grill.
Performed by Dave Brooks & Anita Anderson
This song idea came about when driving home from one of Lauren’s softball games in Portland. Wilma, Dave’s mom, was with me in the car. We were talking about all that Dave had been through in his lifetime. We spoke of all of his physical wounds from hockey and football, and Wilma said, “He also has scars you can’t see”, meaning how hard it was to lose Teresa and how hard he tries to disquise the hurt and pain and scars it has caused him. I loved the idea when she said that, and I agreed with her. We actually thought that it may even be our book title. Dave and I wrote the song as a duet, and all of the incidents and facts in it are true about him and me. It turned out great and is such a universal theme. We all have “Scars You Can’t See”!!!
